Whether it's fashion or home decor there will always be trends that will come and go. The key to is to avoid getting caught in what I call the "trend trap".
What is the "trend trap" you ask? Well, it's simple. The "trend trap" is that moment that you begin to make purchases based on what is "trending", or "on trend" verses what you truly like and enjoy.
For example, right now one of the biggest trends in home decor is the farmhouse style. It seems everywhere you look everyone is chasing after the next piece of white "chippy" painted furniture, galvanized trays and absolutely ANYTHING that represents a modern take on farmhouse life. This, is a trend! Farmhouse decor is just one example of a decor style that is in full swing right now and much like every decor style from the beginning of time, it too will have it's day and soon will fade into a distant memory when the newest trends hit the scene.
The problem with trend traps is that you spend time, energy and most importantly MONEY overloading your home, or wardrobe with items that aren't really your style or what you love it's simply a way to stay "on trend".
Now, I'm not saying that certain eliminates of decor styles or fashion won't stick around, or even that they will go away completely, however it's important to spend your time, energy and money on things that you love and will never grow old of even when the trends have passed you'll still love your home and your style.
It's sorta like that theory "don't be a follower, be a leader". Don't follow the masses because they've fallen into the "trend trap". Beat to your own drum and chase after what you love. In the end you will be much happier because you'll be being truthful to who you are.
Have a wonderful day.
Until next time.
